Obituary of Nicolina DiPaola

DiPAOLA, Nicolina (nee DiPietro) - Passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, at the Greater Niagara General Hospital on Monday June 2, 2025 at the age of 82. She will be dearly missed by Michele, her husband of 61 years, and her children Rocco (Anna Maria), Tony (Melanie), Mike (Andrea). Nonna and memories of her delicious cooking will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren Alexander, Chasnie, Jason, Sophia, Benny, Joshua and Nicholas. Coming from a large family, Nicolina will be reunited with many and mourned by many more, especially her siblings the late Emilia (the late Gerardo) Siconolfi, the late Filomena (the late Giuseppe) Tota, Maria (the late Angelo) Pennacchio, Francesco (Maria) DiPietro, the late Gaetano (Marianne) DiPietro, the late Carmine (Grazia) DiPietro, the late Angela (the late Martino) Bernini; and her siblings-in-law, the late Carmine (Michelina) DiPaola and Frank (Maria) DiPaola. Nicolina’s joy was in cooking for her family, especially with homegrown ingredients from their impressive, well-tended garden. She moved to St. Catharines with her husband and two young toddlers, from Italy in 1968, with empty pockets and a heart full of hopes and dreams for a better life for generations to come. She was a devoted parishioner at St Alfred’s Catholic Church. Nicolina was proud of her Italian heritage as celebrated through many festivities through Club Guardia, and extended family picnics, activities and gatherings. A heartfelt thank you to Chapel Heights for the special care they have shown Nicolina and Michele over the past five years, while they were able to remain living together and make many new friends and engage in various fun activities. To hear her scream ‘BINGO!’ for a tiny chocolate bar that she could share with her grandchildren will forever bring a smile to our face. Friends are invited to join the family at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St, St. Catharines, visiting Friday June 6, 2025 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. Vigil prayers will be held at 3 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday June 7, 2025 at 9:30 am at St. Alfred Roman Catholic Church, followed by the Rite of Committal at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. In memory of Mrs. DiPaola, memorial contributions may be made to The Niagara Health Foundation or Big Brothers Big Sisters of Niagara, and would be appreciated.
