PETTIT, Sheldon Leigh
Passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 with his wife by his side. Beloved husband of Marilyn (nee Johnson) for 54 years. Loving father of Janice (Christopher Birkland), Michael (Cheryl), and David (Alexandra). Dear and cherished Grandfather of Madilynn, Devin, Jack, Ryler, Shawn, Alice, and George Pettit. Dear brother of Beverly (Robert) Kratz and remember by many nephews and extended family. Predeceased by his parents, Telford and Marian (nee McMann) Pettit (2001) and Granddaughter Elizabeth (2017).
Sheldon was born in 1944 and raised in Welland, Ontario. After graduating from Welland High School he completed an Electronics Certificate from Hamilton Institute of Technology. He started his career working for Commercial Electric in Welland as an Apprentice Electrician. Ater a few years, he continued his career with Xerox of Canada as a Service Representative starting in 1970 and retiring after 29 years only to be hired by Kelly Services to continue the position he had just retired from. This contract position continued for another 3 years.
He received Advance Amateur Radio Certificates and his passion for his radio encouraged him to get his Straight Key Heritage Certificate. He was proud and happy, talking about the new contacts world wide he had made right up to the end. He was particularly proud of how his low band radio reach as far and was as clear as some of the radios that used much more power. Sheldon loved to solve problems and in particular fix things especially if they pertained to anything electronic. He was known to many as Mr. Fixit. He loved to share is knowledge and talents with friends and neighbours.
Sheldon was a parishioner for many years at St. George’s Anglican Church and enjoyed volunteering his time to help in anyway possible. He particularly enjoyed his Monday Morning group and helping with the Community Breakfast Program. He enjoyed the friendships he made while working with others, at the church and in the neighbourhood. These experiences form the bases of lasting friendships.
The family will receive friends at the George Darte Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 585 Carlton St. on Thursday June 12th from 2-4 and 6-8pm. A Final Tribute for Sheldon will be Held Friday, June 13th at 11am at St. George's Anglican Church, 83 Church Street. Cremation to follow. If so desired donations made to St. George's Anglican Church or Therapy Tails in Sheldon's memory would be appreciated by his family.
