Obituary of Mel Melconian

MELCONIAN, Mel - It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of Mel’s sudden passing at the St. Catharines General Hospital on Saturday, May 31, 2025 at the age of 85. He was a devoted husband of 59 years to Zdenka (nee Primorac), beloved father ‘Babi’ of Leon (Paola), Sonja, Dan (Malu). Devoted grandfather ‘Dede’ to Mel, Dario, Kai, Emil, Quinn, and Dane. He will be fondly remembered by his sister Mary, brother Hratch (Nevart), as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Mel’s life was defined by his love of family. Respectful and respected, Mel inspired those around him with his integrity, generosity, and boundless kindness. He lived with steadfast conviction and fortitude. He was always a gentleman who could be counted on for sage advice and support. Close family and friends will remember his wit and humour. A talented musician from a young age, Mel loved opera, classical music, spaghetti westerns, and his backyard; a man of many interests, he was also a gifted athlete and enjoyed playing cards and backgammon. His primary interest, however, was his children and grandsons. Beaming with pride, he travelled tirelessly to attend games, performances, and ceremonies. Friends are invited to join the family at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St, St. Catharines, visiting Thursday June 5, 2025 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. Vigil prayers will be held at 3:45 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Julia Roman Catholic Church on Friday June 6, 2025 at 1 pm. Cremation will follow, with the Rite of Committal to take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Burlington at a later date.
