Obituary of Elizabeth Anne Newton

NEWTON, Elizabeth Anne 'Betty' (nee Comerford) - Passed away peacefully at Hotel Dieu Shaver Hospital on Monday May 5, 2025 at the age of 81. Beloved wife of 56 years to Monty. Cherished mother of Katie, Lorraine (Gordie) Metler, loving grandmother of Gracie, Ross. She will be fondly remembered by her sister Theresa (Loreto), as well as her nephews Neil, Gino. Predeceased by her parents Raymond and Kathleen (nee Chambers) Comerford. Elizabeth will be remembered as someone who selflessly gave to others. She entered the Our Ladies Missionaries Convent at the age of 19, and after serving for 5 years left to care for others as a Nurse at Hotel Dieu Hospital. Shortly following her departure from the convent, Betty met the love of her life, Monty, at a dance at Club Heildelburg and the two lovebirds were married a short 9 months later. Betty and Monty were fortunate to be able to make many memories and travel together. She will be cherished as the glue that kept her family together through thick and thin. The family wishes to acknowledge the exceptional care provided to Betty at Hotel Dieu Shaver, especially that received from Sister Louise. At Betty's request, cremation has taken place. Friends are invited to join the family at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St, St. Catharines, visiting Wednesday May 14, 2025 from 11 am to 1 pm. A Funeral Service in celebration of Betty's life will be held at 1 pm at the funeral home. A private family Rite of Committal will follow at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. In memory of Betty, memorial contributions may be made to Hotel Dieu Shaver Foundation, and would be appreciated.
