Obituary of Aniela Gruszewski

It is with much sorrow and great sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved mother Aniela (Ann) Gruszewski (nee Szpilewski). She passed away peacefully on April 5th in her 89th year after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.

She was the devoted wife of the late Bazyli (2013), beloved mother of Bill, and cherished grandmother of Karolyn (Steve), Eric (Anne), Dean (Lisa). Great grandmother of Renzo, Camilla, and Mac. Sister of Walt (Michelle), Bruno (Irene), sister-in-law Felicia. Best friend of Lora Jambrovic. She was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Alice, as well as her brother Eugene and sisters Valerie and Alina.  Aniela was born in 1936 in Poland and immigrated to Canada in 1949. She married Bazyli in 1954 and celebrated the arrival of their son the year after. After a 30-year career at GM, both Aniela and Bazyli retired the same day. Upon retirement they moved to Jordan Station for a period of time enjoying the fruits of their peach farm. Upon the arrival of their grandchildren, they faithfully encouraged them in their sports activities by not missing any of their soccer games. Aniela was known for her tremendous cooking and baking skills, her recipes sought after by many. She has left an indelible impression for those that were fortunate to have known Aniela for her honesty, integrity, patience, knowledge, creativity and generosity. In keeping with Ann’s wishes, funeral arrangements have been entrusted with the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines. The family welcomes guests for a time of visitation on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 from 3pm - 6pm. Vigil prayers at 4:30pm. A Funeral Mass for Ann will be held the following morning, Wednesday April 9, 2025 at 11:00 am In Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, 5 Oblate St. Interment Victoria Lawn Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Alzheimers Society in Ann's memory.
