
Obituary of Ken Thompson
With heavy hearts and great sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Kenneth Wayne Thompson on April 4, 2025 in the comfort of his home, at the age of 77. Survived by his partner Diane Melling and loving children, Lyle (Andrea), Keith (Shereen), Sean, Joe, Betty-Jo and Kelly (Jeff), Jessi (Geoff); Grandfather to Johnathan, Kiara, Sydney, Ethan, Taylor, Emma and Emil; Great-grandfather to Willow and Knowledge; his siblings, Betty, Brian and Rick. Will be missed by his nieces, nephews and extended family. Ken will forever be remembered by his Richmond Avenue family. Ken was predeceased by his first wife, Frederica Goodine in 2011; brothers, Gord and Don, as well as brother-in-law, Clifford and sisters-in-law, Sharon and Patricia.
Born in Hamilton on April 14 1947 to parents, Ellwood and Florence Thompson. Ken had a successful career as a Machines Operator with Niagara Machine Products Corporation before working with Risk Security until his retirement in 2024. Ken was an avid fisherman who enjoyed the solidarity the sport had to offer. He loved spending time with his ever-growing family, spoiling his grandchildren and his beloved fur babies, Havic, Abby and Monty.
We wish to give special thanks Wendy and the staff at Walker Family Cancer Centre who gave Ken wonderful compassionate care. The Niagara EMS Palliative Care team for the excellent professionalism and exceptional patient care and to good family friends, Gail and Pinky. We are appreciative to all who have taken the time to visit and offer support to Ken in his final days at home.
In keeping with Ken’s wishes, funeral arrangements have been entrusted with the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines. The family welcomes guests for a time of visitation on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 from 2:00 – 4:00pm and 6:00 – 8:00pm. A Celebration of Ken’s life will be held the following day, April 10, 2025 beginning at 11:00am with cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters in memory of Ken.
