Obituary of John James Curran

It's with great sadness that we announce the passing of John James (J.J.) Curran. Born June 26, 1936, John was raised in Cooksville Ontario, and passed away at Marotta Family Hospital in St. Catharines on April 3, 2025 surrounded by love.

John is predeceased by his wife Pauline (nee Seguin), his parents Thomas and Isabelle and his brothers Peter and Patrick.

John is survived and will be sorely missed by his children Michael Curran (Debra), Robert Curran (Ana) and Joanne Krupa (Gary) and by his grandchildren Jennifer Tyler (Travis), Dana Krupa and John Krupa.

John will also be fondly remembered by his family including his sister Ann Lawrence and was much loved "Uncle John" to Gordie, Tommy, Karen, Tammy and Cindy and their families. Proud of their Irish heritage, John and his sister Ann were the much respected, fun-loving leaders of the whole extended Curran family.

John retired in 1992 following a long and successful career in the OPP. John became a proud Northerner starting his service in the North Bay detachment Marine unit on Lake Nipissing before transferring to Sudbury where he was promoted to Sergeant. John was exceptionally proud of his 35 year career in the OPP serving the people of Ontario.

John enjoyed a long and happy retirement spending summers at his camp on Clearwater Lake in Sudbury and winters at his home in Port Richie Florida. In Port Richie, John enjoyed golfing, washing his beloved Cadillac, pursuing flea markets and generally enjoying retirement and socializing with a league of many new friends.

John moved to St Catharines in 2018 where he lived at the Heatherwood Retirement Residence. John often commented that the other residents and staff became very much like family to him. He was always truly interested to keep up with what was going on in their lives.

John was a positive, incredibly resilient man who lived life very fully. He loved his cars and looked forward to his daily newspaper(s) ritual and enjoyed the simple pleasures of good food, music, Leaf’s hockey, and the Blue Jays. He was able to find humour even in the most difficult situations.

In keeping with John's wishes, cremation has taken place.

John loved life and his parting gift to us is the opportunity to reconnect, share and celebrate the legacy of memories that he created with us. John’s children invite you to join a true CELEBRATION of his life on June 28th at 3pm at his daughter’s home at 4319 Niagara Parkway, Stevensville.
