Obituary of Teresa Maria Helmink

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Teresa Maria Helmink at the age of 93. Born in Holland, she embarked on a new journey in 1954, immigrating to Canada with hopes of building a bright future. That same year, on May 8, she married the love of her life, Hank, and together, they shared a beautiful life filled with love, laughter and adventure.

She was a devoted mother to Debbie (Paul) born 1960 and Rob born 1962, always ensuring they felt supported and cherished. A talented seamstress, she worked for many years at Warren Knit where her skill and dedication were admired by all.

Beyond her work, she found joy in the great outdoors, often spending time camping, hiking, and traveling. Teresa had an open heart and warm presence, always eager to socialize with family and friends. A passionate sports fan, she cheered faithfully for the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Blue Jays, celebrating their victories and remaining loyal through their (many) defeats.

She was a proud grandmother to Daniel and Kevin, later embracing the role of great-grandmother to Liam and Damien, showering them all with boundless love and wisdom.

Teresa is predeceased by her beloved husband, Hank (2022) and her siblings, Mientje, Piet, Annie, Truus, Harrie and Henk, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, kindness and deep familial love. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who knew and loved her including her cherished nieces and nephews in Holland.

 In keeping with her wishes, funeral arrangements have been entrusted with the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines. Cremation has taken place and the family welcomes guests for a time of visitation on Monday, April 7 2025 from 6:00 – 8:00pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, consider memorial donations made to Canadian Cancer Society in honour of Teresa. A private family celebration of Teresa’s life will be held at a later date.
