Obituary of Edward Arthur Sanderson
With heavy hearts and great sorrow, the family of Edward Arthur Sanderson announce his sudden passing at the age of 75 surrounded by family on Friday, February 28, 2025. Now reunited with his beloved wife, Nancy Sanderson (nee Unrau) and is survived by his daughters, Rosemary (Roger) and Janet; proud grandpa to Chasity and Trenton; sisters-in-law, Shirley, Janice and Mary; many extended family members to mourn the loss of Ed.
Born in St. Catharines on December 3, 1949 to parents Clifford and Susie Sanderson. Ed enjoyed a successful career as a millwright in Thorold Ontario. In his youth, Ed enjoyed boating, fishing and hanging out at York bar with his close friends Bill and Kissy. Given no choice by his friend Bill, the two of them curated an ad in The St. Catharines Standard to “find a wife” for Ed. Not long after, Nancy replied and together they spent the next 40 years growing their family in Niagara. In his spare time Ed was outside in his garden or enjoying walks down the canal, a chocolate shake from the Avondale Dairy Bar and drawing in one of his many sketch books. Anyone who knows Ed will remember him for his big beard, his loud voice and his kind heart. Ed was a simple, selfless man whose main priority was his family’s happiness. He was the greatest man we’ve ever known, and his absence leaves a void in our hearts that can never be filled.

In keeping with Ed’s wishes, funeral arrangements have been entrusted with the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines. Cremation has taken place and a graveside service to be held on Wednesday, March 26th 2025 at Victoria Lawn Cemetery beginning at 1:00 pm followed by a Celebration of Life held at the Thorold Legion Branch 17, 3 Ormond St. S., Thorold on the second floor from 3:00 - 7:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider making memorial donations to a charity close to your heart in honour of Ed.
