Obituary of Peter Daniel Birdgeneau
Peter Salem Birdgeneau Senior – August 27th, 1940 to February 28th, 2025
‘Pete’ was a proud father, papa, great papa and papa-bird, he departed this world with his loving family by his side on February 28th, 2025. Pete was born August 27th, 1940, in St. Catharines to Peter Salem Birdgeneau and Irene Myrtle Van Clieaf.
Married on August 26, 1961, Pete was the beloved husband of the late Amy Patricia ‘Pat’ Locke for 61 years. A father of five, which included a set of twins, Pete raised his children with love and care. Pete is survived by his sister Mary Francis Patrick, children Cathy (Ted) Scheers, the late Peter Jr. (June 30, 2021), Debbie (Tom predeceased) Birdgeneau, Cheryl Bruce (Sam), Darryl Birdgeneau (Sheri). He is survived by 15 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, brother & sister-in-law Mike & Noreen Locke and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents Peter & Irene, son Peter Birdgenau Jr., granddaughter Shannon Birdgeneau, and half siblings John, Lenora and June.
Pete was a proud and meticulous gardener who took pride in his home renovations and who had a love of clocks (too many to count). As a young lad of 14 he took over his father’s Canoe Livery business on Brock Street, Port Dalhousie. At the age of 15 he started working at General Motors on the Boy’s Line (legal age was 16). He became known, affectionately, as ‘Birdie’ by his coworkers and retired from the Stock Room as a Lead Hand after 38 years.
Special thanks to Dr. Kahlon, Anna and Bonnie, Paramed and all the PSWs, Nurses Deidre and Jo, The Walker Cancer Centre especially Dr Claydon and staff for their kind care and Sam's Pharmacy.
A Final tribute for Peter will be held in the Ceremony Room of the George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton St. on Friday, March 7th at 11am. Interment to follow in Victoria Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donation made
