Obituary for Walter Philip Cybulak
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Walter Philip Cybulak at home, surrounded by the love of his devoted wife Sharon and his family, on Monday, February 24, 2025. Walter was 83 years old.
Walter was a cherished husband to Sharon, with whom he shared 59 years of love and companionship. He was a proud and loving father to his daughters, Joanna (Massimo) Spagnoli and Dianna (Greg) Hemphill, and a deeply treasured grandfather to his grandchildren: Olivia, Philip, Amanda, and Emma.
Walter was immensely proud of his Ukrainian heritage and was a founding member of St. John’s Ukrainian Catholic Church. He dedicated many years to the church, working in the kitchen as a dough maker for perogies and tending the bar at activity centre functions. His love for his community was evident, and he was always there to lend a hand whenever needed. Walter was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus, Circle 1394 and member of Monsignor Morris Assembly. He was also proud to be in charge of the Bingo run by The Knights Of Columbus.
A man of many passions, Walter found joy in the simple pleasures of life, including walking his dogs, riding his bike, spending quality time with his family, and watching the Toronto Blue Jays. He was known for his great sense of humor and his willingness to help others. A skilled mechanic with a true passion for cars, Walter could fix just about anything, always offering his expertise. He took great pride in his children and grandchildren and loved to share his wisdom with them.
Walter worked at General Motors for 30 years and retired from there, leaving a legacy of hard work and dedication.
Walter enjoyed quiet moments as well, often spending his time doing Sudoku and other puzzles. He always looked forward to being on the water, boating with his good friend.
Walter’s legacy lives on through his beloved wife Sharon, his daughters, grandchildren, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors and medical staff at the Walker Family Cancer Centre and St. Joseph’s Hospital for their compassionate care. A special thank you to everyone involved in Walter’s home care in the final days of his life.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2025, from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at George Date Funeral Home, located at 585 Carlton Street in St. Catharines. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 28, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, located at 91 Lakeshore Road in St. Catharines.
