Obituary of Lynda Maureen Mannell
With heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Lynda "Maureen" Mannell (nee Pyle) at her residence on Friday, February 14th at the age of 74. She is survived by her husband Ray, her children Marc and Stacey (Matt), her grandchildren Lexie and Slade. Lovingly remembered by her brother Gene (Linda), her brothers-in-law Roger, Dennis, Larry, sisters-in-laws Lois, Sheryl and their families. Maureen is predeceased by her parents Fred and Sylvia, her stepmother Ella and her in-laws Charles and Margaret.
Maureen was born in 1950 and was a proud Western Hill girl. She grew up playing hide and seek, tag, hockey, baseball, football and tobogganing with the Cullen's, Birmingham's and the Mannell's. She went to Westdale and Power Glen elementary schools, Sir Winston Churchill and Collegiate high schools and Niagara College. She started dating Ray in 1971 and they were married August 11, 1972. Maureen worked at Wallace's Women's clothing on St. Paul Street until it closed. She worked for the St. Catharines post office from 1973 - 1977. Marc was born in 1977 and Stacey in 1980, Maureen enjoyed being a stay at home mom for many years during which she enjoyed many adventures with her children and their friends.
As her children got older Maureen began caring for Margaret and Thomas Hanuschuk, while working at Magic Mountain in Port Dalhousie. Thanks to Mike and Helen Hanuschuk, she began her 25 year career at Shoppers Drug Mart, Linwell Plaza and Niagara-on-the-Lake. She enjoyed spending time with Lexie and Slade, watching her favorite shows; Coronation Street, Heartland and Blue Bloods and snuggling up with her blanket in the rocking chair. Anyone who knew Maureen knew that she was a kind, loving and caring person who had an immense passion for her family and friends.
To commemorate her journey and to celebrate her memory, a visitation will be held in her honour at George Darte Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 585 Carlton St on Tuesday, February 25th from 2-4pm. Private family interment. If so desired, donation made in Maureen's memory to the Humane Society of Greater Niagara would be appreciated by her family.
