Ruth Campbell

Obituary of Ruth Elaine Campbell

Ruth Elaine Campbell, nee Dowdell, 84 –passed away peacefully on December 18 at home surrounded by love.   Ruth's family was at the centre of her world - she was a kind and gentle wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandma and great-grandma.

Ruth is survived by her children, Paula (Klaus), Beth (Rico) and Scott (Kelly), 7 grandchildren and one great-grandchild as well as sisters Marg Rotha and Jeannie Williams and sister-in-law Diantha Dowdell and their families.  She is predeceased by Will, her beloved husband of almost 55 years, and siblings Len and Joe Dowdell and Coral Scruton.

The daughter of Leonard and Margaret Dowdell nee Brush, Ruth grew up in Windsor Ontario.

She was a registered nurse and very passionate about her profession, working as an ER/OR nurse in Windsor, Detroit and Miami and finally in Niagara as a public health nurse at TRW and Brock University.

Always generous with her time, support and smiles, Ruth was a proud and doting grandma to Darryl, Rachel & Patrick, Katrina, Laurel, Alyssa, Nicole and Henli, and great grandma to Nora.

Ruth was fortunate to travel extensively, but her fondest memories were those spent with family at home in Niagara or at the cottage on the Bruce Peninsula.

Children were her passion and she was a caring volunteer with Family and Children's Services Niagara for over 25 years.

Ruth was kind, compassionate and gentle, always putting others first.  She will be greatly missed by family, friends and neighbours. Cremation has taken place, and a private celebration of life will take place at a later date.

Many thanks to the caring professionals at the Walker Cancer Centre, Dr. Valerie Bayley, and LIHN/CCAC Niagara for their care and support of her wishes to remain at home.  In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Rankin Cancer Run and Family and Children's Services Niagara - Summer Smiles.

Interment

In keeping with Ruth's wishes, cremation has already taken place. A small family gathering has been celebrated and a grave-side memorial service will be held this summer.
