Brian Duckett

Obituary of Brian Alan Duckett

In loving memory of Brian Duckett

April 22nd, 1947 – November 4th, 2017

DUCKETT, Brian Alan

It is with profound sadness that we announce that Brian passed peacefully on November 4, 2017 surrounded by his family. We are all in shock and devastated by our loss.  He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Margaret (Maggie/Mags), and children Chris & Maria and their children Jessica, Sierra and Brandon; Adam and Marnie and their children Noah and Maeve; and Ben and his children with Amanda, Damien and Knox.  Loving brother to Kevin (Shannon), Sue (Rick), Bob, Jamie (Lynn), and Steve (Marie-Josée).  Proud cousin and uncle of many loving nieces, nephews and their next generation too, and friend to just about everyone he would meet (unless it was a hockey referee).

Family was top of his list always - especially the grandkids – likely as it was a great excuse to enjoy an ice cream when they were around.  Brian always thought of others first.  No matter where he was, he would make it a priority to drop in on family and friends.  He loved watching his kids/grandkids/family play hockey, soccer, field hockey, baseball or just anything they were doing. We always begrudgingly listened to his bad jokes but would lighten when he was the person laughing hardest.  He had that belly laugh while holding his breath and turning red, that was the best.  He loved travel whether it was piling the three boys in the car to drive to Florida, Ottawa, and other destinations; or more recently enjoying retirement with Margaret in Israel, Mediterranean, Mexico, Scotland, Ireland, Alaska, or at the trailer.  Brian thoroughly enjoyed being “right” even when he was “wrong” and we all loved him for it.  He loved to strum on his guitar, give wet willies, tickle the grandkids and loved his many pets over the years.  He would debate just about any topic and his favorite was politics.  He loved the outdoors, reading, running, walking, coaching, scouting, ice cream (I know we mentioned that above but he really loved ice cream), his church family, mentoring, counselling and his honey-do list.

There is so much to remember and we will take comfort in these fond memories in the days to come. He was a great husband, dad, son, brother, uncle and friend to so many and always, always, always found time for others ahead of himself.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Saturday, November 11, 2017 for a public gathering at 12:30pm, followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:30pm. There will be a reception at 3:15pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations to Trinity United Church Thorold or St. Catharines General Hospital “ICU” would be greatly appreciated by the family.
