O'BRIEN, Mervin

After a long illness, Mervin passed away peacefully with family by his side on Monday, August 21, 2017 at the age of 83. Beloved husband to Maryellen (nee Shea) for 58 years. Loving father of Peter & Diane, of Cumming, Georgia, Sean & Nancy, Maureen & Danny, Kathleen & Rick, all of St. Catharines. Proud grandfather & papa to Juliet, Ellen, Madeleine, Hannah, Jack, Claire, Dan and Kate. Cherished brother of Sheila (the late Vic), Sharon (Lance) and brother-in-law of Marilyn. Predeceased by his son-in-law, Mike. Mervin will be remembered for his love of family. He was an avid sports fan and was involved with coaching youth hockey and baseball for many years. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Linhaven for their devoted care. Visitation will be held at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines on Thursday, August 24 from 4-8 p.m. Vigil prayers will be recited in the funeral home on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Denis Catholic Church, 230 Lake St., St. Catharines on Friday, August 25 at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow the mass. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
