PENNER, David John

With great sadness, David's family announces his passing on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at the age of 89. Sadly missed by his children Carol, Dwight (Tara) and stepson Dave Clayton; his grandchildren Jessop (Alysia), Haley, Ashley Clayton (Tsilavo Ralandison); his great-grandchildren Victoria, Alexander and Joseph. Cherished brother of Kay and Joanne. Greatly missed by many nieces and nephews, especially the Rothwell clan. Predeceased by his first wife Connie (1972), his second wife Joyce (2005), and many siblings.

David worked for Bell Canada and BCE for over 42 years. Starting as a lineman/ splicer, he worked up poles and down manholes in icy winters and hot summers to maintain telephone service, proudly finishing his career as an engineering associate designing phone installation throughout Ontario, the United States and the Caribbean. He was actively involved in the Bell Telephone Pioneers as president and past president, promoting its charitable work using telephone technology in assistive devices for people with special needs. He was also actively involved at Carleton United Church, Westminster United Church and supported many charities. David spent his retirement days boating in Penetang and in his beloved Florida, making friends throughout his community, where he will be sorely missed.

Arrangements are entrusted to the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL HOME, 585 Carlton St., St. Catharines. Visitation will be held at Westminster United Church, 180 Queenston St., St. Catharines on Tuesday, August 8 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Funeral service for David will follow in the church at 11:30 a.m. (Access to church via Valleyview Road.) Interment to follow at Niagara Lakeshore Cemetery, 1483 Lakeshore Road, N-O-T-L. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Canadian Diabetes Association, or the Alzheimer Society.
