Obituary of Vic Flus

Flus, Vid "Vic" – Passed away peacefully at Hospice Niagara on July 19, 2016 at the age of 75, surrounded by his family. Devoted husband to Marina (nee Schwandt) for 51 years. Loving father to David (Helmy), Trevor (Alison) and Sherri. His greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren Nicole, Courtney and Meagan, and Weston; and great-granddaughter Morgan. Beloved brother to Tony (Marlene), Frances Mestek (the late Frank) and Kathy; brother-in-law to Tony Mestek (the late Gloria) and John Gerden (the late Mary); and uncle to many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Frank and Slavka, sister Anne and parents-in-law Gus and Agnes Schwandt. As one of the Flus Brothers at Esso, and Hertz Rent a Car, he had a reputation of being a strong family man and putting other people’s interests ahead of his own. His strength of character and incredible sense of humour will be greatly missed not only by his family, but by his many friends. Vic was a member and usher of St. Denis Church. A heartfelt thanks to the amazing team at Hospice Niagara for their compassionate care, the team at CCAC, Dr. Jeremy Child, Dr. Brian Findlay and Tish for their extraordinary care. Vic also wished to thank his family and friends for their thoughts and prayers during his last few weeks. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at the George Darte Funeral Chapel, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Saturday July 23 between 12 - 2 pm. Memorial Service to follow at 2 pm in the funeral home. A private family burial will take place at Victoria Lawn Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Catharines General Hospital - Walker Family Cancer Centre or Hospice Niagara.
