Obituary of Giovanni De Mita

De Mita, Giovanni "John" It is with great sadness that we announce that our dad, John, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, September 12, 2014 at the St. Catharines General Hospital, in his 90th year. John has been reunited with his wife Maria Rosa (2005). Loving father of Maria (Vito) Sinopoli, of Toronto, Angelo, of Thorold, Michael (Arlene), of Florida, Reno (Cindy), of Oakville, Jerry (Janine) of Niagara Falls. Beloved Nonno of Angela (David), Robert, Christina, Rachel (Jose), Matthew, Isabella, John, Nicole and great-grandson Austin. John is survived by his sister in Italy, Nestina. Dear brother-in-law of Giovanna, Letiza, Felice (Maria) Biancaniello, Ralph (Ida) Biancaniello, Emilia (Amato) Prudente. Predeceased by his brother Antonio De Mita, sister Stella, of Italy, Amato Biancaniello, Tony Biancaniello. John will be remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends. John immigrated to Canada in 1956 with his wife and two children. John was an autobody mechanic, he also worked at General Motors retiring in 1987. He had a passion for carpentry, and enjoyed building cabinets and armoires for his family. John is resting at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton St. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 15, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Vigil prayers will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 3 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Alfred's Church, 272 Vine St. on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at 11:00 a.m., with entombment to follow the service at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Lung Association would be appreciated by John's family.
